A good rule of thumb: the cat should be able to turn around inside the cave with a little room to spare. For cats up to around 3 kg (most kittens and small adult cats), the Small works well. For average adult cats in the 3–5 kg range — British Shorthairs, Ragdolls, domestic shorthairs — Medium is the right choice. For larger cats over 5 kg or small dogs up to around 6 kg, go Large. If your cat is at the top of a size range and tends to stretch out rather than curl up, size up.

The cushion pad lifts out and can be cleaned separately. For light hair and dust, a lint roller or vacuum attachment works well on the plush exterior. The outer shell can be spot-cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap.

The dome is internally structured and holds its shape when left alone. A cat moving around inside will naturally compress and re-expand it slightly, which is normal. The fold-flat function requires deliberate downward pressure from the top — a cat sitting inside won’t accidentally collapse it. That said, this is a soft bed, not a rigid frame: if a very large or heavy pet leans hard against the side wall, it will lean. For cats within the recommended weight range per size, the structure is stable in normal use.

Not every cat takes to an enclosed bed immediately — and if yours consistently avoids covered spaces, a cave bed probably isn’t for them regardless of brand. However, some cats that ignore cave beds initially will use one if introduced with the dome folded flat first. Let the cat sleep on the open mat for a few days, then gradually raise the dome. The fold-flat design makes this gradual introduction possible without needing a second bed. No guarantees — cat preferences vary widely — but it’s worth trying if your cat is on the fence about enclosed spaces.

Yes. The non-slip dotted grip underside holds on hard floors and low-pile carpet. On thick or shag carpet the non-slip base has less effect (the carpet itself absorbs movement), but the bed is heavy enough that it stays in place in normal use. Not designed for outdoor use.
