A silicone mat has a raised lip — spills sit on top and you wipe them off. DryPaws™ is an absorbent fabric mat — spills soak into the material. That makes it quieter under bowls, kinder on hard floors, and better for small drips and drool. The trade-off: after a big water spill it needs air-drying time, and it needs washing regularly. Different tools, different jobs.

Day to day: wipe with a damp cloth, or shake crumbs off and rinse under a tap. Weekly (or whenever it's grubby): machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble-dry low or air-dry flat. Don't iron and don't bleach — the rubber backing won't thank you.

It shouldn't. The underside is rubber-backed for grip on smooth floors — tile, laminate, sealed hardwood, vinyl. On very smooth polished marble or a wet surface, anything can slide, so give it a quick press-down after mopping. If your pet is an absolute demolition-eater and drags the whole thing regardless, size up — a heavier mat is harder to shift.

Only if you leave it. Wet food residue left on fabric overnight will start to smell — that's physics, not a product flaw. Rinse it off the same day it happens and you'll be fine. For stubborn stains (raw meat, pigmented kibble, beetroot-based treats), a cold pre-soak before washing is your friend.

Measure your current bowl setup's widest footprint and add 10 cm of margin on each side to catch splash. For a single cat bowl, S is plenty. For two standard dog bowls side-by-side, go M. For large breeds or a bowls-plus-fountain station, go L. When in doubt, size up — the only thing worse than spills on the floor is spills just past the edge of the mat.

DryPaws™ is a feeding mat, not a chew toy. The materials are non-toxic, but the mat is not designed to be eaten. Persistent chewers will chew anything — if yours falls in that category, supervise early meals and reconsider if they're actively tearing pieces off. Ingested fabric or rubber can cause a blockage; contact your vet if you suspect they've swallowed any.
