SniffWaggleNWalk FreePace™ · Hands-Free Running Lead · Dual Bungee
Run with your dog. Both hands free. No yanks, no stumbles, no apologies to passing cyclists.
The FreePace™ clips to your waist and your dog's harness, leaving both hands completely free — for running, hiking, cycling, or just carrying a coffee on a busy morning walk. The dual bungee design absorbs sudden lurches so a Labrador spotting a squirrel doesn't take you off your feet. Two emergency handles sit along the lead so you can grab control instantly when you need it. Reflective threading runs through the entire lead for visibility in low light. The waist belt adjusts from 70 to 120cm and fits most adults comfortably over running gear or a coat.
Dual bungee shock absorption
Two separate bungee sections run along the lead — one near the waist attachment, one nearer the dog. When your dog surges forward, both bungees extend and absorb the force before it reaches your body. A single-bungee lead transfers the jolt straight to your hip; the dual design spreads and softens it significantly. Particularly important for stronger breeds like Vizslas, Weimaraners, Border Collies, and Huskies who run hard and change direction suddenly.
2 emergency handles
A rigid grab handle sits at each bungee section — one closer to you, one closer to your dog. In the split second a cyclist passes, another dog approaches, or your dog spots something across the road, you grab the nearest handle and shorten the effective lead length instantly, without fumbling for a clip or slowing your pace. Essential for runners on shared paths or any environment where you need instant control.
Adjustable waist belt — fits 70 to 120cm
The 2.5cm-wide nylon belt adjusts from 70cm to 120cm — small enough for most women running in just a vest, large enough for a tall man in a winter coat. The double D-ring quick-release buckle is easy to operate with one hand even mid-run, and the belt sits at hip level so the lead exits in front of your hip rather than pulling from your wrist or side.
160cm lead, stretches to 260cm
At rest the lead measures 160cm — enough distance that your dog runs alongside you rather than right at your heel. Fully stretched it extends to 260cm, giving your dog room to move naturally during trail runs or hikes without constantly feeling restrained. The bungee returns the lead to its natural length as soon as the tension releases.
Reflective threading throughout
Reflective stitching runs the entire length of the bungee and handle sections — when a car's headlights hit the lead on a dark morning run, the whole length lights up. Combined with the NightStrider™ LED harness, your dog becomes genuinely hard to miss from any angle before sunrise or after sunset.

Honest notes
Not ideal for dogs that haven't learned loose-lead basics. If your dog pulls constantly and erratically, a hands-free lead transfers that force directly to your core and hips. We'd recommend getting to a point where your dog can run alongside you before switching to hands-free — the FreePace™ is built for active dogs that run with you, not against you.
The bungee extends — plan your running line accordingly. At full stretch the lead reaches 260cm. On a narrow pavement or shared cycle path, that's enough for your dog to reach the kerb or another runner. Use the emergency handles to shorten in tight spots.
Attaches to a harness, not a collar. Running with the lead attached to a collar places strain on the neck. Always use with a harness — the NightStrider™ or any of our other harnesses clip directly to the snap hook.
Waist belt is designed for running, not load-bearing. It's a 2.5cm nylon belt — it will handle a 30kg dog running alongside you comfortably, but it's not designed for a dog that stops dead or lunges at full sprint. For very strong pullers, a hip-running belt with a wider anchor point would be more appropriate.
Is this right for you?
✅ Right for you if…
- You run, jog, hike, or cycle with your dog regularly
- You want both hands free on walks without holding a lead
- Your dog runs alongside you reasonably well already
- You have an active medium to large breed — Spaniels, Retrievers, Vizslas, Collies
❌ Not for you if…
- Your dog is still learning loose-lead walking and pulls constantly
- You need a short, fixed-length lead for busy urban streets
- Your dog is a very large, powerful breed that lunges unpredictably
- You want a lead for slow, stop-start city walks with lots of sniffing

Questions & answers
What size dog is this suitable for?
The FreePace™ works well for medium to large breeds that can comfortably run alongside an adult — Cocker Spaniels, Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Weimaraners, Vizslas, Border Collies, and German Shepherds all run well with this setup. For very small breeds like Chihuahuas, Dachshunds, or Pugs, the bungee tension at full extension may be too much — a standard short lead is usually better for dogs under around 8kg.
Should I attach it to a collar or harness?
Always a harness. Running with a lead attached to a collar places strain on the neck and throat, which can cause injury over time — particularly in brachycephalic breeds like French Bulldogs or Boxers. A back-clip or front-clip harness distributes force across the chest and shoulders instead. The FreePace™ snaps directly onto any standard harness clip.
Will the waist belt fit me?
The belt adjusts from 70cm to 120cm waist circumference — this covers the vast majority of adults, whether you're wearing running tights or a bulky winter coat. The quick-release buckle means you can take it on and off without re-threading the adjuster each time.
What are the emergency handles for?
The two rigid grab handles sit along the lead at each bungee section. Grabbing one effectively shortens the lead on that side — use them when another dog approaches, when you need to bring your dog close at a crossing, or any time you need to override the hands-free setup and take direct control without unclipping from your waist.
Can I use it for cycling?
The FreePace™ is designed for running and hiking, not cycling. At cycling speeds, a sudden lunge or stumble from your dog carries significantly more force than at running pace and could cause a serious fall. For cycling with a dog, a dedicated bike-mount lead attachment is the safer choice.
