A small house with a pitched roof, a wide arched doorway, and walls that actually block the wind. Indoor den for cats who want somewhere of their own — or sheltered daybed for the garden cat who thinks he lives here.

The LittleLodge™ Weather-Resistant Pet House is a soft-sided, cottage-shaped shelter built from PVC-coated Oxford cloth with a quilted padded floor and a full zip-on roof. It folds flat for storage, sets up in under a minute without tools, and works equally well as an indoor cat den or a sheltered outdoor spot for garden cats and small dogs in mild weather.

Three sizes — Small, Medium, Large — all built for cats and small breeds up to 6kg. Three patterns — Black paw-print, Green woodland, and a Brown botanical finish — all with the same soft interior in pale blue.

At a glance

  • Anchoring: fabric peg-loops at each base corner (for grass use)

Honest note on outdoor use — please read.
This is a water-resistant, shower-proof shelter — ideal as a sheltered daybed, a conservatory cat house, or a mild-weather garden spot. It is not a waterproof winter survival shelter. For a garden cat in persistent rain, wind, or freezing temperatures, this won't keep them warm enough on its own — pair it with a self-heating pet mat, an insulated liner, or move them indoors during hard weather. If you're looking after a feral colony or farm cat through a cold winter, please see the FAQ below for what we'd actually recommend.

Which size for my pet?

Size Dimensions Best for
Small 35 × 33 × 30 cm Kittens and small adult cats up to ~2.5 kg — toy breeds and slim-framed cats like Siamese or Oriental
Medium 40 × 38 × 35 cm Average-sized adult cats up to ~4 kg — moggies, Bengals, Burmese, smaller Ragdolls
Large 45 × 43 × 40 cm Larger cats and small dogs up to ~6 kg — British Shorthairs, Maine Coon kittens, Persians, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, small Pomeranians

Honest limit: this is a small-pet shelter. Despite the house shape, it's not sized for a medium or large dog — a Cocker Spaniel, Beagle, or anything bigger needs a proper kennel, not this.

Setup in four steps (under a minute)

  1. Take the folded house out of its storage pack.
  2. Unfold the walls into a box shape — internal stiffeners hold the form.
  3. Drop the padded cushion mat onto the floor inside.
  4. Zip the pitched roof onto the top of the walls — zip runs around three sides.

To collapse: unzip the roof, fold the walls flat, pack together. Stores in a holdall or on a shelf.

Where to put it

  • Indoors: any quiet corner — by a radiator, in a bedroom, in a utility room. Ideal for cats who like a covered den.
  • Conservatory or covered veranda: perfect — dry, sheltered, breezy air.
  • Covered porch or garden with overhead shelter: use the corner peg-loops to anchor on grass. Add a self-heating mat in colder months.
  • ⚠️ Open patio in direct weather: OK for light showers, not OK for persistent rain or strong wind — water will track in via the zip.
  • Unsheltered garden in winter or storm conditions: not suitable. See the outdoor / feral-cat FAQ below.

Questions answered

Is it actually waterproof?

Honest answer: it's water-resistant, not fully waterproof. The PVC-coated Oxford shell sheds rain well, but the seams are sewn rather than welded and the roof zip has no storm-flap cover — so in heavy or prolonged rain, water can track in along the stitching and the zipper teeth. For light showers or a sheltered outdoor spot, it's fine. For persistent wet weather or storm conditions, bring it inside or move it under cover.

Can I use it as a winter shelter for a feral or garden cat?

Please read this carefully. As a mild-weather sheltered daybed for a garden cat, yes — it gives them somewhere dry and out of the wind. As a proper winter survival shelter for a feral cat through freezing nights, honestly, no — there's no insulation filling, no raised floor to block cold ground, and no door flap to retain body heat. If you're caring for a feral cat or colony through winter, the single most effective DIY shelter is an insulated plastic storage tub with a polystyrene liner and a bed of straw (not blankets — blankets hold damp). Charities like Cats Protection (UK), Alley Cat Allies (US), or your local cat rescue publish free guides on making these. This LittleLodge works as a supplement to that — a second sheltered spot, or a daytime den — not a replacement.

Will a small dog use it?

The Large works for calm small dogs up to ~6 kg — Yorkies, Chihuahuas, small Poms, toy Poodles, Dachshunds that treat it as a daybed. Not for jumpy terriers, puppies, or any dog bigger than 6 kg. The structure isn't built for impact or for larger pets leaning on the walls.

Is the padded floor mat included?

Yes — every size ships with a padded quilted floor mat included as standard. Nothing extra to buy. The mat is removable for washing or airing.

Is there a door flap?

No — the front entrance is a fully open arched cut-out. Good for cats going in and out at will and for ventilation. Less good for retained warmth or blocking direct wind. If wind is a concern for an outdoor spot, position the opening away from prevailing weather, or pair with a self-heating mat inside.

How do I anchor it outdoors?

Each base corner has a fabric peg-loop. On grass, push tent pegs through the loops into the ground — holds well in light wind. On concrete, decking, or paving, the loops alone won't anchor it — add your own weights (a heavy paving slab on the floor under the mat works) or screw-anchors suited to the surface.

How do I clean it?

Unzip the roof and fold the walls flat for access. Wipe the shell inside and out with a damp cloth and mild soap — the PVC coating lifts mud, hair, and light spills easily. The padded floor mat lifts straight out: hand-wash with mild detergent, air-dry flat. Don't machine-wash the shell (the stiffeners will distort) or tumble-dry the mat.

Will my cat actually use it?

Cats are drawn to covered, enclosed spaces — the house shape, the narrow doorway, and the low-roof interior all tick the instinct boxes. To help them claim it: place it in a quiet spot they already choose (not where you'd like them to sleep), put a worn item of your clothing inside for the first few days, and avoid moving it around. Most cats adopt a new den within a week.
