For the dog who drops kibble on the floor, splashes water across the kitchen, and treats every meal like a demolition job. And for the owner who's tired of wiping the same patch of floor three times a day.
The MessMat™ is a single-piece silicone feeding mat with two stainless steel bowls set into it — and a raised lip running around the whole perimeter that catches what your dog throws out. Kibble that falls off the edge of the bowl stays on the mat. Water splashed during drinking stays on the mat. Crumbs from hurried eating stay on the mat. Lift the mat, tip the mess into the bin, rinse, put back down. A forty-pound problem solved by a simple bit of shape.
The silicone base grips tile, wood, and lino floors — no sliding when your dog pushes at the bowls. The two stainless steel bowls lift out for washing. Available in three sizes for puppies through to large breeds, and two colours (Black and Brown) to fit your kitchen.

Most pet feeding mats are flat. Your dog pushes a piece of kibble off the edge of the bowl, it rolls across the mat and onto the floor. Your dog drinks, lifts head, drips run off the mat and onto the floor. The MessMat™ has a continuous raised lip running around the whole perimeter — about 2 cm high. Food that gets knocked out stays on the mat. Water that splashes stays on the mat. The mess is contained in one place, and one place is easy to clean.
Who this is for
- ✅ Messy eaters — dogs who scatter food in all directions while eating. The raised lip catches kibble you'd otherwise be picking up off the kitchen floor.
- ✅ Sloppy drinkers — breeds with jowls (Labradors, Bulldogs, Bernese, Newfoundlands, Spaniels) that drip half a bowl of water across the floor at every drink.
- ✅ Puppies — still learning kitchen manners. The mat contains the inevitable chaos of puppy mealtimes and gives them a defined feeding area.
- ✅ Multi-pet homes — when food bowls live in a busy kitchen, a defined mat area reduces the "whose bowl is this?" chaos.
- ✅ Wooden-floor homes — water splashed near the bowl warps floorboards over time. The mat catches it before it gets there.
- ✅ Travel and camping — rolls up flat, packs in a bag. Perfect for caravans, camper-vans, holiday rentals, and anywhere your dog goes with you.
If your dog is a senior or has arthritis and you're looking to raise the bowls to chest height, our Elevated Dog Feeder with Spill Drawer is the product you want instead — this mat keeps bowls at floor level.
Which size for my pet?
Don't pick by weight — pick by how much your pet eats and drinks per serving. The bowl capacity is what matters.
| Size | Mat | Bowl capacity | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 36 × 21 cm | 200 ml per bowl | Cats, kittens, puppies, Chihuahuas, Yorkies, tiny-breed seniors |
| Medium | 46 × 26 cm | 400 ml per bowl | Most adult dogs — Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Frenchies, Cockapoos, Border Collies, Staffies, Springers, medium Doodles |
| Large | 48 × 28 cm | 850 ml per bowl | Large breeds and big eaters — Labradors, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Huskies, large Doodles, multi-pet homes |
Cleaning
- Bowls: lift out — dishwasher-safe (top rack), or hand-wash with mild detergent.
- Mat: lift it up, tip the mess into the bin, rinse under the tap, wipe dry. Takes ten seconds. Silicone doesn't stain or absorb smells.
- Weekly deep clean: mat is dishwasher-safe if it fits — otherwise a soak in warm soapy water and a rinse.
Questions answered
Will it really stop food and water hitting the floor?
For almost all eating: yes. The 2 cm raised edge catches kibble knocked out of the bowl, splashes from drinking, and the drips that run off a jowly dog's mouth after a drink. For dogs who lift food out and drop it on the floor two feet away, the mat can't help — but for the normal kitchen-floor mess of a keen eater or sloppy drinker, it makes a real difference. Most owners notice it in the first week.
Is the silicone safe for my dog?
The mat is FDA food-grade silicone — non-toxic, BPA-free, odourless, and tested to the same standards as silicone baking moulds used in kitchens. It doesn't leach chemicals, doesn't absorb odours, and doesn't harbour bacteria the way some porous plastics can. The stainless steel bowls are the same material used in most premium dog bowls.
Will it slide on my floor?
On tile, wood, lino, and laminate — no. Silicone grips smooth hard floors naturally. On high-pile carpet, it will sit but not grip (most owners don't put a feeding mat on carpet anyway). If your kitchen floor has an unusual texture, test it with a small amount of water on the underside — that can sometimes help the silicone grip even better on trickier surfaces.
Is this an elevated feeder?
No — the bowls sit on the mat at floor level. If you're looking for raised bowls to help a senior or arthritic dog eat without stooping, see our SuperDesign® Elevated Dog Feeder with Spill Drawer — that's the right product for that need. The MessMat™ is about keeping your floor clean, not adjusting your dog's posture.
Can I take it travelling?
Yes — the whole mat rolls up flat (silicone is flexible) and packs into a holdall or the boot of a car. The stainless steel bowls lift out and stack. A popular pick for caravan owners, camper-vanners, and people who holiday with their dog in rentals where you don't want to ruin someone else's floor.
Which size should I get?
The Medium is right for most adult dogs — it holds a proper meal (up to 400 ml / ~150 g of kibble per bowl) and the mat footprint is kitchen-friendly. Go Small only for cats, puppies under 4 months, or tiny breeds. Go Large for Labradors and bigger, or if you have two dogs sharing. If you're between sizes, size up — bigger mat = more spill catchment area.
Black or brown?
Practical answer: black hides stains and looks smart in modern/minimalist kitchens; brown is warmer and blends into traditional/rustic interiors. Neither absorbs odours. It's an aesthetic call, not a performance difference.
