Cat scratcher · Lounge pad · Corrugated cardboard

Cats scratch to stretch, mark territory, and shed old claw sheaths — it's not a bad habit, it's a need. Give them something better than the corner of your sofa.

Scratch. Stretch. Settle.

The PawScratch™ pad works in three ways at once. It's a scratcher — the tightly layered corrugated channels are satisfying to claw, and the texture naturally draws cats away from furniture. It's a lounge — the gently curved bowl shape cradles cats who like to curl up somewhere with a bit of structure. And it doubles as a play surface, especially once you sprinkle a little of the included catnip sachet over it.

The oval shape keeps it stable on hard floors and rugs. At 40 × 28 × 8 cm, it's large enough for a full-grown cat to stretch across but compact enough to tuck beside a sofa or under a window sill.

Why cats prefer corrugated cardboard

Sisal and carpet scratchers work for some cats. But many — particularly those who go for book spines, cardboard boxes, or the back of wicker chairs — are specifically after the texture and sound of layered paper fibres. The corrugated channels in PawScratch™ shred in a way that feels satisfying to claw, and the debris falls away cleanly rather than pulling threads.

The bowl form adds another dimension: rather than lying flat on the floor, the curved sides give cats something to press against as they stretch, mimicking the resistance they'd get from a tree trunk or door frame edge.

Worth knowing — using the catnip sachet

Sprinkle a small amount directly onto the scratching surface the first time you put the pad out. The scent encourages investigation and first use. Not all cats respond to catnip — it's an inherited trait — but for those who do, it reliably shifts their attention to the new surface. Store the rest of the sachet in a sealed bag to keep it fresh.

Redirecting scratching behaviour

For best results, place the pad beside or in front of whatever your cat currently targets — the sofa arm, the carpet edge, a specific door frame. Cats scratch where they already have a scent mark, so positioning matters more than you might expect. Once they've used the PawScratch™ pad a few times and marked it as their own, it becomes the preferred spot.

The pad works on hard floors, rugs, and low-pile carpet. It won't slide around under normal use.

How long does the scratching surface last?
Corrugated cardboard scratchers wear down gradually through normal use. When the surface becomes very compacted or shredded, the pad can be replaced. Lifespan varies by how frequently and vigorously your cat uses it — light users may get several months from a single pad.
Will my cat use both the scratcher and the lounge?
Many cats do both — scratch first, then settle in. The bowl shape naturally draws cats to curl up once they've claimed the surface. Some cats primarily scratch it; others mainly use it as a resting spot. Either way, it keeps them occupied on something other than your furniture.
Is it suitable for large cats?
The pad is 40 × 28 cm — large enough for most domestic cats to stretch across and lounge in. Very large breeds (Maine Coon, Ragdoll) will fit for scratching and partial lounging, though they may overhang the edges.
What's the difference between the Yellow and White/Mushroom styles?
Both are the same size and construction. The Yellow version has a cartoon animal print band around the outer edge. The White/Mushroom version features a botanical print with a neutral palette — better suited to modern or minimalist interiors. The White/Mushroom version is priced slightly higher to reflect the print.
Does the cardboard dust create a mess?
Some fine cardboard debris is normal as the surface is used — it's the same as any corrugated scratcher. The oval bowl shape tends to contain loose flakes within the pad rather than scattering them across the floor. A quick vacuum around the pad during your normal clean is all that's needed.

Pair it with

PawPounce™ — self-rolling interactive cat ball for active play between lounging sessions
PawBunny™ — motion-activated kicker toy for cats who need a physical outlet
PawNook™ — enclosed cat hideaway bed for cats who want total darkness after a scratch session
