The PawGlow rechargeable LED dog collar is built around a single idea: drivers spot a moving light from further away than they spot a moving shape. Black nylon webbing on the outside, a fabric mesh light strip down the middle, reflective stitching along both edges. Press the button on the buckle once to wake it up, hold it to cycle through three modes — steady, slow flash, fast flash — and you've got 360-degree visibility around your dog from the moment the sun drops.
Charge it with the included USB cable for around two hours. One full charge runs five to eight hours on steady mode, longer on flashing mode. Long enough for a week of dawn-and-dusk walks before the next top-up.
Why a light-up collar matters more than a reflective one
- Reflective collars need a light source pointed at them. A car's headlights, a torch, a streetlight. No light source, no reflection.
- An LED collar emits its own light. Drivers, cyclists, other dog walkers see your dog before their headlights even pick up the reflection.
- The flashing mode draws the eye. Movement plus light is what the human visual system is wired to spot. A steady reflection in the dark gets missed; a pulsing light doesn't.
Five colours, all the same brightness
Red, Green, Blue, Pink, Orange. The colour is purely cosmetic — every variant uses the same LED count and the same brightness rating. Pick whichever shows up best against your dog's coat. Black and tan dogs (Rottweilers, Dobermanns, German Shepherds) tend to suit Red or Green; lighter dogs (Goldens, Labradors, white breeds) often look sharper in Blue or Pink.
Splash-resistant, not submersible
The light strip is sealed against rain, wet grass, and walking through puddles. It is not rated for swimming, sea-dipping, or full submersion. If your dog is the kind who launches into rivers, take the collar off first or use it alongside your existing waterproof harness. Honesty matters more than overclaim.
One thing to know: the LED unit is built into the collar — it doesn't detach. That means the whole collar charges via the USB port on the buckle, and the whole collar gets washed (sponge-wipe only, no machine wash). It also means if the battery eventually fails after a couple of years of daily charging, the collar comes out of rotation rather than being repairable. Worth knowing before you commit.
LED collar vs reflective collar — get both
If you already own a passive reflective dog collar, this isn't a replacement. The two work together: reflective stripes catch headlights from far away, the LED panel is visible without any external light source at all. For dog walkers in rural areas with no street lighting, owners with off-lead dogs in fields and woods at dusk, and anyone whose dog has dark fur, layering both is the standard kit. Passive + active = belt-and-braces.
Sizing — measure the neck, not the dog
Wrap a soft tape measure around your dog's neck where the collar sits, with two fingers underneath for comfort. Read the number, match it to the size chart below. The strap is 2.5cm wide and adjusts down via the buckle, but don't buy up "just in case" — a loose collar slips, and an LED collar that slips is a flashing light on the floor instead of around your dog's neck.

The Large fits up to a 55 cm neck. If your dog is a German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Mastiff, Great Dane, or any giant breed with a neck over 55 cm, this collar will not fit — wait for the XL version (planned) or pair with a wider safety harness instead.

How long does the battery last per charge?
Around five to eight hours on steady mode, longer on either of the two flashing modes (the LEDs are off half the time on slow flash, more than half on fast flash). For most owners that's a working week of dawn-and-dusk walks before the next two-hour USB charge. Heavy users — long evening walks, off-lead at night — should expect to charge every three to four days.
Can my dog wear it in the rain?
Yes. The light strip is sealed against rain, wet grass, and puddles. What it isn't rated for is swimming, sea-dipping, or full submersion — if your dog plunges into water, take it off first.

Is the LED bright enough to bother my dog's eyes?
No — the LEDs face outward through the mesh strip. Your dog can't see them; everyone else can. The brightness is calibrated for visibility from a distance, not for proximity glare.
Can I machine wash it?
No. Sponge-wipe only with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed. The battery and LED circuit aren't designed to survive a wash cycle. Treat it like any other electronic accessory.
