Most walks don't need a 2-metre lead the whole way round. The RoamLine™ gives your dog up to 8 metres to sniff, wander, and explore — then locks instantly when you need them close. Nylon tape instead of thin cord means no rope burn if it brushes your leg, the soft-grip handle absorbs the shock when they hit the end, and the swivel clip stops the tape tangling on itself. Available in four lengths to match your dog's size and your usual walks.

Not for reactive or unpredictable dogs in high-traffic areas. Retractable leads give your dog freedom, but that freedom can become a hazard near roads or other dogs if your dog is reactive. In busy areas, a standard fixed lead gives you more immediate control.
Check the weight rating before ordering. The 3m and 5m housings are rated to 15kg and 20kg respectively. If your dog is heavier, choose the 5m Plus or 8m — these use a stronger mechanism and larger housing specifically rated to 50kg.
Don't let the tape run out fully at speed. Any retractable lead can jerk when a dog hits the full extension at a sprint — keep the button engaged when your dog is moving fast to avoid a sharp stop.
Wipe clean only. Don't submerge the housing in water — the spring mechanism isn't waterproof. Wipe the tape down with a damp cloth after muddy walks and dry before retracting.

Which length should I choose?
3m suits pavements, parks, and anywhere you want your dog close. 5m is ideal for quieter paths and medium dogs who like to explore. If your dog is over 20kg, go straight to the 5m Plus or 8m — the standard 5m housing isn't rated for heavier dogs. The 8m is best for open fields and beaches where a long range is genuinely useful.
Is it safe to use near roads?
Retractable leads are best suited to open spaces with low traffic. Near roads, keep the lead locked at a short length so your dog can't dart out suddenly. For city walks or anywhere near traffic, a fixed lead gives you faster, more reliable control.
My dog weighs exactly 20kg — which version should I get?
Go for the 5m Plus. The standard 5m is rated to 20kg, but the Plus gives you more headroom and a more robust mechanism — worth the extra for a dog right on the limit. If your dog is still growing, definitely size up.
How do I stop the tape from tangling?
The swivel clip at the dog end prevents most tangling from your dog circling or doubling back. If the tape does twist, hold the housing still and let the clip rotate freely — it usually unwinds itself. Avoid letting the tape drop on the ground while fully extended as this is when tangles most often occur.
