Just a sticker. The wiper does the cute bit. Your car's rear wiper becomes the dog's tail (or the cat's), and every time it wipes, the tail wags. The whole product is two pieces of vinyl. The smile it gets at traffic lights is the bit you actually buy.
The PawWag wiper-activated pet decal is two stickers in one envelope. The body — a Cocker Spaniel-style dog or a sitting cat — goes on your rear window. The tail goes on your rear wiper itself. Park up, the dog or cat is just sitting there. Set off in the rain, the wiper kicks in, and now the tail is wagging.
Before you order — your car needs a rear wiper.
Most hatchbacks, estates, SUVs, MPVs and crossovers have one. Most saloons don't (BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Tesla Model 3, Mercedes C-Class — no rear wiper, no PawWag). If you're not sure, walk round to the back of your car and have a look. If there's no wiper there, this product is useless to you and we'd rather you didn't waste £8.95.
Choose your design and colour at the top of the page — Cat or Dog, in White, Black, Red or Orange. The cat sits with whiskers; the dog sits with floppy ears. Both work. Which one you pick is a personality question.
Why this is fun
- It's the joke that pays out every time it rains. Wiper goes on, tail wags. Static when parked, animated when driving.
- It tells the world there's a dog (or a cat) in the household. Fellow dog owners notice it. Pedestrians notice it. Children point.
- It costs £8.95 and goes on in 90 seconds. If you regret it in two years, peel it off and forget it ever happened.
Installing it
Two pieces of vinyl. The body goes on the rear screen, the tail goes on the wiper itself. The whole job takes about a minute and a half if you're not fussy, three minutes if you are.
- Clean the rear window where the body will go. A glass cleaner spray and a microfibre — get rid of dust, grease, anything sticky. The vinyl won't bond properly to a dirty surface.
- Peel the backing off the body decal. Position it on the rear window, off-centre toward the wiper side, leaving the wiper's full sweep area clear.
- Smooth from the centre outward with a credit card or a clean tea towel — get the air bubbles out.
- Lift the wiper arm off the glass. Clean the wiper blade housing with the cloth.
- Peel the backing off the tail decal. Stick it onto the wiper itself, aligning the base of the tail with the body's tail position so when the wiper sweeps, the visual joins up.
- Lower the wiper. Test it dry first, then with the wiper on. Adjust if the tail's sitting wrong.
Don't drive with the wiper running for the first 24 hours after install — let the adhesive cure properly first. After that, it's a permanent-feeling fixture.
Position around the rear-view camera, the parking sensors, and the defroster lines. If your car has a high-mounted rear camera (most modern cars do), keep PawWag clear of its lens. UK Construction & Use Regulations require the driver's rear view to be unobstructed. For most setups, the dog or cat sits comfortably to one side and nothing's blocked — but check the position before you press it down. The vinyl will lift cleanly off if you reposition within the first minute.
How long it lasts
PET adhesive vinyl in UK weather typically lasts 1 to 3 years before the edges start to lift and the colour fades. The variables: how often the car gets washed (high-pressure car-wash brushes are the main thing that kills decals), garage vs street parking, and how much sun the back of the car catches. A garaged hatchback hand-washed once a fortnight will hold the decal for the long end of that range. A street-parked SUV through a £6 brush wash twice a week will hold it for the short end.
When it eventually does need replacing, peel it off (warm water and a credit card help), give the glass a clean, and put a fresh one on. At £8.95 a sticker, that's not a heartbreak.
Frequently asked
My car doesn't have a rear wiper — does this still work?
No, sorry. PawWag is a wiper-activated decal — without a wiper there's nothing to make the tail move. Most saloons (BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Tesla Model 3, Mercedes C-Class, most Toyota saloons) don't have a rear wiper. Most hatchbacks, estates, SUVs, MPVs and crossovers do. If you're unsure, have a look at the back of your car — if there's no wiper, this isn't the product for you.
Will it pass an MOT?
As long as the decal doesn't obstruct the driver's rear view, the rear-view camera lens, parking sensors, the registration plate, brake lights, or interfere with wiper function — yes. Position it to one side of the rear window, clear of the camera, clear of the defroster heating lines, and you're fine. PawWag is small enough to fit comfortably in the corner of most rear screens.
Will it damage the wiper or the glass?
No. PET adhesive vinyl is the same material as standard car decals — it bonds firmly without etching the glass and peels off cleanly when you eventually want it off. The tail piece sticks to the wiper without affecting the wiper's function or the rubber blade. Some long-term residue is possible if it's been on for over two years; a glass cleaner and a credit card edge handle it.
Can I take it through a car wash?
Yes, but accept that high-pressure brush washes will shorten the decal's life. Hand wash or a touchless jet wash is gentler. The first 48 hours after install, avoid all car washes — let the adhesive bond fully.
What size is it?
The body is roughly 14 cm tall, the tail/stick is around 15 cm long. Sized for a typical car rear wiper. If you have a particularly small car (Smart, Fiat 500) or a particularly large one (people-carrier with a long wiper arm), it'll still fit but the proportions will look different — slightly oversized on the small car, slightly undersized on the very large one. Both still work.
Cat or dog — which is more popular?
Roughly even. White is the most-bought colour on both designs. Black sits second. Red and Orange are the personality picks — they read brighter and stand out more on a dark or grey car.
